Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler is a shilling, tear jerking tale of a wrestler who is 20 years past his prime. Randy “The Ram” Robinson (Mickey Rourke) was once a professional wrestler, and during his prime was an iconic celebrity. Video games and action figures were made of “The Ram” a famous wrestler. Randy has nothing to live for outside of the ring, but when a heart attack nearly takes his life be begins to second guess his profession. He has a long lost daughter from a broken marriage whom he tries to reconnect with after the marriage, although she had her heart broken by him numerous times and is not ready for him to do it again. Randy’s only joy outside of the ring is found in getting lap dances from Cassidy the stripper, played by the lovely Marissa Tomei.
Cassidy is a single mom, also too old for her profession. The doctor tells Randy that he will not be able to wrestle again after his triple bypass, he is heart broken and struggles finding meaning in his broken life.
Trying to make ends meat as a deli counter guy he eventually gets overwhelmed and quits the job, only to return to his only passion in life. Darren Aronofsky weaves a beautiful documentry style movie about this once famous wrestler, complete with a shilling soundtrack with a beatuiful song by Bruce Springstein. As Randy gets back in wrestling the movie ends as he performs his famous Ram Horn move, Randy is panting and holding his chest possibily about to die from another heart attack. It is not sure if the last scene in the movie is where Randy Dies but the abrupt ending seems to indicate it. My only complaints about the movie is the ending, it just seemed like it wasn’t finished. Other than that I would defiantly recomend anyone going to see it, it has gotten acclaimed reviews from numerous sources and seems to be a candidate for some awards. Not to mention that you get to see Marissa Tomei nude

Great write-up, Henry!
